Naamah and Ahira Reporting For Duty!

After a bit of a rocky start, Aion preselect is up and ready to go.  They had a problem with a patch they released that nuked Aion from the NCSoft Launcher but after a few tense minutes the preselect was ready to go and finally launched about 45 minutes after schedule.

I have decided my main will be a Cleric and I will run an alt Ranger named Naamah.  Meet Ahira, my Asmodian Cleric:

I just made a random character for Naamah, just to reserve the name.   I will go back and work on her later.

Now, just have to wait for headstart……

Gameguard Kicked To The Curb!

NCSoft has made the immense decision of removing Gameguard forAion’s launch!  Now they leave room for the possibility of it returning later but only after they fix the problems that are currently happening.

Another Good Decision By NCSoft….Oceanic Server Announced.

The key to launching an MMORPG of Aion‘s magnitude is communication. We been keeping everyone following the game aware of what our plans are and listened to your feedback, creating a dialog with you. We’ve also kept an eye on the various Aion communities, talked to Aion community members, and compared what they have said and requested with our beta test data. Based on all this input, we have decided to launch Aion with an Oceanic server set to GMT+10.

Our Oceanic communities have already masterfully executed unofficial polls indicating their server desires. To honor these community efforts, the North American server Nezekan will be adjusted to an Oceanic time zone and event schedule immediately. The server will however not be labeled as an Oceanic server right away, but we plan on changing that in a patch within the first two weeks after launch. We are doing everything we can until then to let everyone know about the plans for Nezekan’s future time zone schedule to allow players to make informed decisions.

We experienced some frustrating technical difficulties with the surveys we launched early this week meant to help roleplayers and language-specific communities choose their unofficial game servers. Many Aion communities saw a need to coordinate their members and were much quicker than we were to organize surveys. We have decided to honor their hard work by permanently taking our own survey down, since we have no desire to interfere with what our great communities accomplish or cause confusion. We will continue to work with the fansites in our Fansite Program to promote their community survey results.”

Spirit Master Pets Can Now Fly!!

One of the biggest gripes that potential Spirit Masters had with their class was the inability of their pets to fly.  It was a legitimate gripe, as their pets were a substantial portion of their DPS and utility.  PvP in the air was tough for them for this reason and many a potential Spirit Master abandoned the class when they found that their pet was gimped in aerial combat.

No more.

In the newest Korean patch notes (translated version here) all Spirit Master pets have gained the ability to fly.  This is fantastic news for everyone who wanted to roll a SM.  It is also an excellent sign that NCSoft is listening pretty closely to the community.

More Details On Character Pre-Select!

Aion’s release is right around the corner, and our anticipation is running high! The beards and hairstyles of the character creator are groomed and lined up, jostling against each other in eagerness to be picked for your characters in this coming weekend’s Preselection and Head Start Programs.

Preselection is a benefit available to anyone who preordered Aion. If you are not sure whether or not you are eligible, simply log in to your NCsoft Master Account to verify that your game account is listed and your account type is not designated as “Beta”.

Starting 12:00 p.m. PDT (more) on September 18, 2009, eligible players will be able to start their game clients and log in to create a total of two characters ahead of everyone else. You can name and create these two characters through the standard character creator and be ready to play with these characters right when the game Head Start Program begins (but not beforehand). Preselection will end 9:00 a.m. PDT on September 20, 2009 (more).

Don’t miss this great opportunity to claim your character’s name before anyone else does. It isn’t too late to preorder, even if you have been holding out.

So, two characters, eh?  Hmm, I am still debating what class my main will be.  Decisions, decisions……

A Simple Fix To Reduce Latency In Aion

Browsing around tonight, I found a fix that claimed to reduce latency in WoW, Aion and any other online game.  Skeptical but curious, I downloaded it and gave it a shot.  Whaddaya know…it worked!  Marvelously in fact.  My latency dropped by nearly half.  It is completely virus free and it is legal to use in Aion, so give it a shot and let me know what you think.  There is even a file to remove it, if for some reason you don’t like it.

New Patch Tonight!

NCSoft is going all out to make sure that the game is ready to release!  Tonight they released a new patch, nearly 700MBs, that fixed a lot of issues with the game.  I am happy to say that NCSoft seems more dedicated than ever to a smooth launch and a stable client.

I am especially happy to see that the left click to move camera bug is fixed.  With this patch we have are now using the same client as the Korean version of Aion!

1. Legions names that are above 16 characters are cut off once you log out and back in.

2. Quest: Defeat the Eastern Garrison:  Garrison patrols are not dropping the proper insignia.

1. Bow Attacks 10%, Critical Hit +100 have been added to the Ranger’s “Speed of the Wind” skill.
2. The duration time of the Sorcerer’s “Sleeping Storm” skill has been changed from 10 seconds to 20 seconds and it increases all elemental defense.
3. Sorcerer’s “Sleeping Storm” skill cast time has been changed from 2 seconds to 1 second, the coo-time has been changed from 2 minutes to 3 minutes as well.
4. It has been changed to be affected by the cast speed when using Sorcerer’s “Kaisinel’s Wrath” and “Lumiel’s Wrath” skills.
5. Spiritmaster’s “Enmity Swap” skill’s cool-time has been changed from 2 minutes to 1 minute.
